The Reference Department is located on the second floor of the library. We provide reference materials such as specialized dictionaries, indexes, atlases, and encyclopedias. Computers with Internet access are available for research use. In addition, Reference Librarians are available to answer questions or provide one on one consultations at the second floor desk during all operating hours! Start your research here!

Give our users the best possible individual reference assistance, by:

• greeting users within 2 minutes of their arrival at the reference or information desks
• listening carefully to their requests
• responding in a friendly, courteous, and non-judgmental manner
• being accessible for questions
• unobtrusively volunteering assistance in the reference area
• providing accurate and complete information from identifiable sources within the limits of available resources
• following through when necessary by arranging referrals and further assistance.

Maintain a no-risk, confidential, and non-embarrassing climate of assistance in the reference area

Maintain equipment and supplies at the highest operational level possible

Select materials and databases representing diverse points of view for the reference area and make them as universally available as possible

Maintain an up-to-date web site with current and productive links to information on the web

Respond to electronic reference requests within 48 hours

Provide competent library instruction to groups on demand
